Prabowo Halts SOE Commissioner Bonuses: What It Means for People

President Prabowo Subianto has underlined his dedication to reforming Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs) by discontinuing the practice of handing out bonuses, also known as tantiem, to SOE commissioners. Delivering a keynote speech at the Apkasi Otonomi Expo 2025 in ICE BSD, Tangerang, Prabowo highlighted the mismanagement and dispersion of many SOE assets over the years. Through the consolidation of these assets under Danantara, Indonesia has now established a significant global financial presence, ranking fifth globally in sovereign funds, following Norway, China, and Abu Dhabi. However, Prabowo criticized the awarding of bonuses to SOE commissioners, especially in times when companies are facing losses, deeming it fundamentally unjust. He emphasized the significance of abolishing these bonuses as part of a broader reform initiative to uphold integrity and professionalism within state-owned enterprises. Prabowo made it evident that opposition to these reforms is unwelcome, as there are numerous young individuals equipped to undertake the responsibility.
