Independence Day celebrations in Indonesia took on a unique twist this year under President Prabowo Subianto. Around 60 small business vendors were specially invited to participate, with the State Palace purchasing all their products to be served to guests – 80 percent of whom were members of the general public. Street vendors like Wahyu, who sells traditional kue apem cakes, expressed their gratitude and happiness for being included in the event. Another vendor, selling es doger, was overwhelmed by the grandeur of the State Palace and being there for the first time in his life. This year, the Palace invited 60 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to provide 30,000 portions of food and drinks free of charge to the public, stationed at strategic points around the Palace grounds. Visitors were thrilled at the opportunity to be up close with the State Palace, with one attendee sharing his excitement on Instagram. The event was not just a celebration but also a symbol of the Palace’s new open approach under President Prabowo, bringing together officials, ordinary citizens, and small vendors in a spirit of unity.
